Historians generally agree that Albert Einstein was a Jew who went to a Catholic grade school. As such he must have been acquainted with the hanc petram quote and the like, and yet he completely rejected Catholicism.
In fact, he spent quite a bit of his time thinking about ethics and the future of his people.
Were I to come across a picture of Mother Theresa or Karol Woytyla with an inserted quote such as "Take it from me, indulgences don't work," or "Dude, you've just got to read the Koran," I'd think it up was tacky beyond words, and not be able to take those behind them seriously.
But as Albert Einstein did say, everything is relative. Taste included.
"Historians generally agree that Albert Einstein was a Jew who went to a Catholic grade school."
-- So are there some who disagree about his being a Jew or about his having gone to a Catholic grade school?
"and not be able to take those behind them seriously"
-- So don't take it seriously.
At the top of the "front page" of my blog is a photograph of Wojtyla as pope having fun with his own public image.
