Is Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” anti-Semitic?
Mel Gibson wanted Jim Caviezel, the actor who portrays Jesus, to appear physically Semitic.

To make Caviezel look Semitic in "The Passion of the Christ", Gibson directed that Caviezel wear a prosthetic nose and that his blue eyes be digitally changed to brown on film. Since Gibson is Christian, he worships Christ the Semite. Gibson's decision about Caviezel's physical appearance as Christ is plainly pro-Semitic.

I hadn't read this before, Father. Thanks for posting it.
How true. Thanks Father.
If Caviezel's appearance in the film is pro-semitic, is there some inference that Mel is not anti-semitic?
What makes a person anti-semitic anyway? Is it one's beliefs or behaviors? Based upon Mel's behavior, I'd have to think he is anti-semitic.
I hope his stated desire to reform is genuine.
What we know as an incontrovertible fact about Gibson's anti-Semitism is that while drunk he made anti-Semitic statements. That's all we know as an incontrovertible fact.
Everything else is conjecture.
"The Passion of the Christ" was a meditation on the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
For those who saw it that way, there was only one character in the movie, Jesus, and His suffering because of our sins was what was being portrayed on the screen.
For those who went to watch a movie where 95% of the actors play Jewish roles, some of whom were historically villains, of course it would be anti-semitic, because that's all they could see.
For a Catholic, another name for the movie is simply, "The Way of the Cross."
Whether or not Mel Gibson is anti-Semitic, I think his movie should not lose any credibility. I thought the attitude of the Jewish leaders in the movie was actually tamer than John's Gospel.
