The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King, 26 November A.D. 2006

In HIM, we are anointed to be prophets, priests, and kings.

PROPHETS-- speaking in the name of God to the world.

PRIESTS-- giving worship to God on behalf of the world, and interceeding for the world.

KINGS-- providing and upholding the just order and conditions for the life and growth of the world according to the will of God.

The English word "authority" comes from the Latin word auctoritas that has the same root as the Latin verb augere, meaning "to cause growth or increase".

To wield authority in an authentic manner is to provide and uphold the order and conditions for the life and growth of those who are subject to one's authority.

In our own personal lives, do we uphold the conditions for our own life and growth according to the will of God? If so, then we are fit to be kings over others. If not, then we are not even fit to be their slaves.

I have posted a homily for today's Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King.
