HABEMUS PAPAM. Twenty Months Later, a Portrait

Benedict XVI doesn’t seek applause, he doesn’t harangue the crowds, but he’s still extremely popular. He himself has explained his secret: it is “obedience to the truth, not to the dictatorship of popular opinion”.

Relatively "uncatechized" priests!

Last night I was at a dinner with eight other priests.

At one point they spoke of instances of the catechetical failure of RCIA.

I brought up the fact that the merely 200-page (size of a "missalette"), question-and-answer "Compendium of the Catechism" was published in the early months of this year.

They had heard of it, but not one of those priests had so much as seen it.

As the shepherd, so the sheep?

to read the COMPENDIUM of the Catechism of the Catholic Church

In only 200 pages (about the same as a missalette) the Compendium teaches the authentic Christian faith by way of a simple question-and-answer approach. It also offers a collection of classical prayers and a selection of great artistic images.

For the Second Sunday of Advent: the Gospel of KABOOM AND WHAM

Bring out the bulldozers, the dynamite, and the steamrollers!
Every valley shall be filled
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The winding roads shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth.

Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths.
All flesh shall see the salvation of God.

We need to do violent work to flatten and straighten the landscape of our lives if we want to be ready for God to rush right in and if we want to see salvation.
