Thank you for this, Father.

St. Bartholomew is one of my patrons. It was while gazing at the altarpiece at the Church of San Bartolomeo in Bologna that I determined to return to the Catholic faith after apostasizing.

The fresco shows the martyrdom of the saint as he watches the heavens opened, and his friend and Lord -- the Son of God, the King of Israel -- beckoning to him.

I thought at the time, "I wish I had faith like that." And I prayed a difficult, rusty little prayer for faith like that.

I don't have it yet, maybe never will, but I'm on my way back.

Saint Bartholomew, pray for us!
